Spiritual Services for Youth in Scouting Programs

The Spiritual Scouting Program is offered through Boy Scout Packs, Troops and Crews, Girl Scout Troops, Camp Fire Groups, and American Heritage Girls Troops in the Archdiocese of Detroit.  CYO helps to enhance the spiritual development of young people and their adult leaders by coordinating the national religious emblem programs for the Archdiocese of Detroit along with the volunteer members of the Archdiocesan Catholic Scouting Committees. Adult Catholic leaders of youth also receive training, spiritual activities, and recognition. Yearly, over 800 young people receive their emblems and over 100 adults are trained in the area of spiritual services.

Annual Recognition Mass:

The Annual Scout Recognition Mass is held annually in early March. All youth who earn religious emblems by December 31st of the previous year are recognized, as well as adults who have been nominated for Adult Religious Awards.

Training for Adult Advisors in Religious Emblem Programs:

All religious emblem programs for girls and the programs for older boys require an adult advisor who must receive training (Cub Scouts work with a parent). There are several trainings held during the year for all programs. For more information regarding Religious Emblem Counselor training, please contact the CYO Scouting office at 313-963-7172 Ext. 8 or email scouting@cyodetroit.org.  Someone is normally available part time on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Registration fliers are posted in the Forms box whenever training sessions are scheduled.

 Adult Service Awards:

There are four adult awards presented at the Annual Recognition Mass: Bronze Pelican, St. George Emblem, St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Award, and the St. Anne Medal. These awards are presented in recognition of long-standing service to the Catholic Scouting program.  Nomination forms for these awards are available in the Forms box at the right of this page.  Please note that the deadline for nominations is in early November.
